Quayle's hermit crab is the smallest of a … Quayle's hermit crab is the smallest of a group of four closely related and similar species characterized by sharp spines on the claws and long, abundant hairs. Quayle's hermit is usually 5 mm or smaller in carapace width and has distinct banded antennae. The left claw of this hermit has the fingers bowed outwards so that when closed only the tips touch. The eyescales of ''P. quaylei'' have several pointed tips, while juveniles of similar species have only one tip.
