Echiurus sitchaensisAlaska spoonwormThis spoonworm lives buried in sediment, and may be found under rocks that are embedded in soft of fine substrates. The flabby part at the "mouth" end is called the proboscis, and a key to identification in this group is the setae, or hairlike projections that may be found along the body. When digging up a specimen, look for the tiny clam California smoothshell clam (Cryptomya californica).
