Helmet crab:
Helmet crab (Telmessus cheiragonus): The helmet crab is immediately recognizable by its hairy orange to yellow carapace and legs. The carapace is roughly pentangular in outline. This species superficially resembles some of the spider crabs (superfamily Majoidea) but none of these are hairy in our region. In the northern Gulf of Alaska there is a close relative, the Korean hair crab (Erimacrus isenbeckii) that is similar in appearance but much larger and has a carapace longer than wide.
