This interesting species is most often enc … This interesting species is most often encountered in large specimens of the mussel [[Mytilus zonarius|California mussel (''Mytilus zonarius'')]] where it lives in the mantle chamber. Somewhat similar to the ''[[Pinnixa littoralis]]'', this species is rarely (if ever) reported from ''[[Tresus capax]]'' or ''[[Tresus nuttallii]]''. Also, ''F. subquadrata'' has a distinct groove running backwards from each eye and extending about 1/3 or the length of the carapace.g about 1/3 or the length of the carapace. +
