Local Notes
- Sitka/Schistostega pennata: Primarily found on soils lodged in the upturned roots of fallen trees of valley bottoms. Also occasionally found on soil in shaded areas (along Mount Verstovia Trail). Has occurred in Totem Park. Fairly common in Indian River Valley. (edit)

Habitat: In southeastern Alaska infrequent, but abundant in suitable sites. Known only from sandy soils lodged in the upturned roots of windthrows in mature river plain forests. Elsewhere in its range also known from caves and other deeply shaded places.
