Southeastern Alaska Distribution: Throughout.
Habitat: In southeastern Alaska abundant on well drained soils, in successional stages (when found in forests it is usually an indicator of a youthful forests), and along the margins of lakes and peatlands in the scrub or shrub zone. Not in dense shade. From sealevel to the subalpine. Elsewhere reported to be chiefly a calcicole in the North.
Comments: Sporophytes rare (not seen in southeastern Alaska).
