Scientific NameCommon NameSummary
Potamogeton alpinusAlpine PondweedScattered collections in ARCTOS from across much of the region.
Potamogeton epihydrusRibbonleaf PondweedThree collections from the region in ARCTOS. Prince of Wales, near Stikine River mouth, and Beaver Lake in Sitka.
Potamogeton foliosusClosed-leaf PondweedA single 1993 collection from Chief Shakes Hot Spring along the Stikine River is the only apparent record from the region.
Potamogeton friesiiFlat-stalked PondweedNearest collection in ARCTOS is from Bering Glacier area to the west. Also a collection in UBC herbarium from BC at Border Lake along the Unuk River near the Alaska border.
Potamogeton gramineusVariable PondweedScattered collections in ARCTOS spanning the region, but wide gaps (including none from northern outer islands).
Potamogeton natansFloating PondweedOnly two collections from the region in ARCTOS, one at Sitka the other on Revillagigedo Island.
Potamogeton perfoliatusClasping-leaf PondweedFNA indicates this species is not known to occur in Alaska (though Richardson's Pondweed (Potamogeton richardsonii) is said to be very similar, and has been considered a subspecies). The only collection from the region in ARCTOS has a note "=P. richardsonii", so it seems likely this species does not occur in the region unless P. richardsonii is included.
Potamogeton praelongusWhite-stem PondweedTwo collection locations have records in ARCTOS, Lake Eva on NE Baranof Island, and Bear Paw lake on E Chichagof Island.
Potamogeton pusillusSmall PondweedA single collection from Farm Island (Stikine River) is the only georeferenced collection of this species from the region in ARCTOS.
Potamogeton richardsoniiRichardson's PondweedA few collections from the vicinity of Yakutat.
Potamogeton zosteriformisFlatstem PondweedNo collections from the region
Stuckenia filiformisFineleaf PondweedCollections in ARCTOS from the northern mainland (Glacier Bay to Yakutat) with one collection from northern Chichagof Island.
Stuckenia pectinataSago PondweedCollections in ARCTOS from near Haines and Yakutat. Large gap between southern BC and northern Southeast Alaska where this species has not been collected (though many collections either side).
Stuckenia vaginataSheathed PondweedHulten indicates a record in the vicinity of the Malaspina Glacier, though details are insufficient to tell whether it came from the Alaska side of the border. Apparently no other records from the region.
Zannichellia palustrisHorned PondweedCollections west of the region starting in the vicinity of the Bering Glacier, but apparently none from Southeast Alaska. Hall 2010 describes this species as common but often overlooked.
