Worley's Map of Collection Records for Polytrichum piliferum

Ian Worley

Southeastern Alaska Distribution: See Map 317.
Habitat: Seldom collected in southeastern Alaska, restricted to climatically or edaphically dry sites. Scarce in the alpine, on mineral soils and cliff shelves, but probably more widespread than the present records indicate. At lower elevations on sandy soils, or in exposed rock crevices in sunny places; also from barren tills in areas of glaciation.
Comments: Sometimes with sporophytes (although none seen in southeastern Alaska material). The alpine populations in the region are scanty and reduced in size.
