Pollicipes polymerus | Goose-neck barnacle | This barnacle lives in high-energy intertidal areas. It is edible, and an under-utilized food animal in the area. Most people do not see it as it tends to grow in hard-to-reach places. The other local species of staled barnacles, such as Pelagic Goose-neck Barnacle (Lepas anatifera) grow on floating objects offshore, and are then generally beachcombed when still attached to the logs and other jetsam they grew on. |
