Habitat: On many substrates. Abundant in exposed sites, on mineral soils, sands, gravels, decaying wood, old buildings, road sides, moraines, tills, sea shores, etc. From sea level to the alpine.
Comments: Sporophytes are usually abundant. This species can be found in almost any situation except where it is very wet or where there is deep shade.
