Habitat: On dry rocks in various exposed situations.
Comments: Rhacomitrium heterostichum sensu stricto as delimited by Banu (1969) has not been found by me in Alaskan material. There are however, many records of the species and its varieties predating Banu's work. I have therefore decided not to indicated any records for the typical variety until the specimens have been compared with the Banu keys and descriptions. The species and some of its varieties are certianly to be expected from the region.
