The current elevation of Blue Lake is approximately 350 feet. Its outflow is called Sawmill Creek which drains into Sawmill Cove. Prior to the construction of a dam for hydroelectric power generation, the lake was much smaller. Currently the city of Sitka is proposing to raise the dam height, thereby increasing the size of the lake significantly.
