Sphagnum palustre: Status of this species is unclear. Included in Worley as occuring in the Sitka area, but BFNA Account for Sphagnum palustre does not have it occuring in Alaska.

Southeastern Alaska Distribution: Probably common and widespread.
Habitat: A species of more or less shaded, boggy sites, usually where ponds are common or where it is wet; also in open peatlands.
Comments: Sometimes with sporophytes. "Amphiatlantic and amphipacific, slightly suboceanic; southern boreal to tropical." (Isoviita, 1966).
