Southeastern Alaska Distribution: Common and widespread.
Habitat: Most frequent, and often in extensive clones, in shady sites in forests, on cliffs and in peatland-forest transition zones. Also along stream margins on terraces, and occasionally in the subalpine in meadows or along streams.
Comments: Sometimes with sporophytes. "Cicumpolar; arctic to southern boreomeridional." (Isoviita, 1966).
