Southeastern Alaska Distribution: Throughout.
Habitat: On most dry, exposed sites (except the disturbed soils of road cuts and avalanche tracks) from sea level to the alpine. Especially abundant in successional zone in areas of deglaciation and rising beaches; an indicator of young forests on well drained soils. Also abundant in peatlands, particularly on drier hummocks.
Comments: Not known to have sporophytes in coastal regions; sporophytes seen only on plants from Haines in southeastern Alaska.
