Littorina sitkanaSitka periwinkleAbundant snail in the upper intertidal of low-energy coastlines, especially on sunny rocks without much algal growth. Littorina sitkana is sometimes so numerous as to obscure the rocks it occupies in search of algae to eat. This is a small, round, dark species, lower and rounder than Checkered periwinkle (Littorina scutulata) which one is most often found in Fucus beds and on mussels.
