Family: Flabellinidae

Group: Marine Invertebrate, Species

Scientific NameCommon NameSummary
Flabellina trophinaRed flabellinaThis nudibranch looks just like red-gilled nudibranch (Flabellina verrucosa), except that its rhinophores are finely annulate, rather than warty, smooth, or bumpy. Another difference is that F. verrucosa has a rounded oral veil ("snout"), whereas F. trophina has a blunt, triangular oral veil. Other diagnostic criteria, such as tail length (longer in F. verrucosa than F. trophina), length of white dorsal stripe (longer in F. verrucosa), and extent of white in cerata (one-fourth white in F. trophina), seem to be less reliable.
