Scientific NameCommon NameSummary
Clinocardium nuttalliiNuttall's cockleThis is the biggest and most commonly seen cockle in our area. It differs from Clinocardium ciliatum by having ribs that are thick on the top (round or flat-topped), rather than having ribs that are triangular in outline, as is the case in C. ciliatum. Another local species in the genus is Clinocardium californiense, which has about ten more ribs and a much thinner shell.
